In-mould decoration with metal foils

This new technology pioneered by WEIDMANN PLASTICS TECHNOLOGY AG uses thin metal foils which are over-molded with one or two plastic materials.

WEIDMANN has state-of-the-art know-how of all the relevant issues, such as:

• The tooling technology,
• The injection molding process,
• Surface designing (shaping and printing) and
• Handling of the foils.

The advantage over the well-known IMD parts with plastic foils is the true metal surface with its striking cool touch effect. In comparison to other production technologies for metal decorated parts, true metal foil over-molding is a major step forward to the fully automated production of such parts (no assembly operation). It leads to weight reduction, opens up new design potentials, and reduces costs.
